First let me say, congratulations!! This is a big step, and you should be excited. You’re probably wondering what to do next, and I am here to provide some guidance.
Remember why you and your partner decided to take this next step, and think about what the wedding day will look like. Will it be grand? Intimate? Courthouse? Venue? Church? What is your budget? What is your vision? What season? What colors?
My first suggestion is to make a rough draft of your guest list to get an idea of what type of space you will need. On the rough guest list include those who absolutely need to be there first, and see what number you are at after that it is up to you on who you want there.
After you have an idea of your guest list, you can start looking at venues within your budget. When looking at venues, do not fall in love with your first venue! I know it is beautiful, but you have to look at at least 3 venues. My husband and I looked at a total of 5, and then we compared all of them. When comparing venues look at what they offer, a spreadsheet will help during this process. Who offers tables, chairs, dining wear, linens, and so much more. I know it sounds ridiculous, but trust me when I say there is a vendor for everything and anything in-between. A thing to take into consideration when comparing venues it to think about the photo opportunities for your photographer. The venue will be one of the hardest things to nail down primarily because of how quickly they book up, but no worries your dream venue is out there and available for your date!
When your venue options are narrowed down, you can start simultaneously researching photographers, videographers (if you choose), caterers, officiants, bakers, DJ’s/bands, day of coordinators, florists, and any extras like a photobooth. I say simultaneously because you will get annoyed looking for one, and you will need something else to look for to feel productive, at least for myself. TIP: When looking for any of these vendors check their social media, websites, or portfolios!!!
These are the basics to planning a wedding, there is so much more to list but that is for another post. If you are feeling overwhelmed remember this day is meant to celebrate the love between you two, and at the end of the crazy day that is what matters.
Congratulations, and Happy Wedding Planning!
